Wireless Networking with Windows

Instructions for connecting a Windows XP computer to the Jesus College wireless networks.

This document explains how to connect your Windows XP or 7 PC to the College Wireless/Wi-Fi.

Check that your Wireless connection is active

Most laptops have a wireless switch or button to activate/deactivate the connection somewhere - it must be turned on;

If your laptop does not have a switch or button for wireless, it is probably 'always on';

Connect your WiFi to the College

Please read either For Windows 7 or For Windows XP below on how to connect to the College wireless.

Register your Wireless Connection

If this is the first time you have used the college wireless network then open your web browser (eg. Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) and visit any page (eg. www.google.com). You will be taken to the network registration page. Follow the instructions.

After restarting your computer you will be fully connected to the network: enjoy!

 

For Windows 7

Activate your Wireless

At the bottom right you should see the WiFi icon double click (circled) will present the list of WiFi connections.

Alternatively, if you don’t see this go to the start menu, select control panel->Network and internet->Network Connections

Select Wireless Network Connections will bring up the connections list

(Note if the Wireless Network Connection icon is disabled; select it, right button click and select enable before proceeding as above)

Select JESU-WLAN and press connect.

After a moment you be asked for the network security key which is welovewireless.You should now be connected to the wireless network. Please open a browser to register your PC to your access to the network & Internet and follow the instructions.

After restarting your computer you will be fully connected to the network: enjoy!
